The girlfriend has gone for a spa day with her mother (we don't really celebrate valentines day) so I'm chopping up some wood to relieve the week's stress. Coupled or not, what are your plans today Oppo?

Moving my brother, getting the box truck after breakfast. He bought his first house.

A tough day ahead then. Is there loads to shift?
![]() 02/14/2015 at 07:56 |

Lunch/dinner and a movie with the girlfriend, then driving home tonight since I have to work tomorrow morning.

Working from 8-6. Probably going to be quite a bit of sitting, so that's good. So far I have to clean an Evoque for delivery by 11, and a PDI clean to finish.
The PDI clean I have to finish.

After the techs inspect the car post-delivery, we clean it up and put protectant on the seats, glass, and paint. LR/Jag pays us very well to do them.

Making sure my kids don't destroy the house or themselves. Might make Prime rib for dinner

not too bad, they don't have large appliances to move.
Just a couple flights of stairs put, then moving into a ranch without stairs, except for basement stuff.

Flying to New Zealand. Well Dubai first, then Auckland.

I was already nosing around under the hood of the HEMIWagon....power steering hose is not looking good, and it's brand new, was put in 11 days ago. Have to put one more hose clamp onto it, and then just get it to the shop.
Then my sister will drop me off at my girlfriends house and I'll just be on edge a little to know if I can get the car back tomorrow or not (mechanic will come in to be able to look at it). This goddamn cold weather is brutal, and needs to stop.
At my girlfriends house, I'll be sleeping, watching TV, and catching up on Top Gear, trying not to be cranky.

Do you have a wood burner too? I sort of miss splitting wood, but my wood burners mouth is so big, there's no need for that.

Work 8-3 and then dinner and seeing Kingsmen with the best friend.

Getting in car now. Driving to San Antonio (from Houston, 3 hours) to meet wife at lah-dee-dah hotel (she's been there since Thursday for work) for an all-adult Valentine's Day. Nanny should be here any second to start watching kids.

Father-daughter oil changes for both of our cars.

I do indeed, and an outdoor brazier. If you want a slow burn then big bits are fine, but I like to have a good mix depending on how cold it is. I'm just getting through some cherry now :)

I can't wait to see that as well. Sounds like a nice night ahead, I expect a film review btw.

sofa + stairs = bad time... From personal experience. Good luck!

Good man, you have your priorities straight. Significant other first, then go and see the girlfriend if you have time.

yeah last time I was recovering from a vasectomy. Not a good idea. But that was a one time thing.
I remember chopping wood as a kid for parents friends. They gave me a couple wedges & sledge hammer. I was likely under paid& hated the whole thing.

I work at a movie theater. I'll be in concessions for the Fifty Shades rush. I am not looking forward to it, especially since I'm just getting 7.25/hr.

Yamadude and I got each other cheesy valentines and candy and then got really drunk last night, and today we're painting a small block at his parents place. Also going to lobby for snow offroading while we're up there near the ORV park but he lacks faith in the XJ.

Going to an auto expo thing with my dad. SIT IN ALL THE THINGS!!

Almost the same. I just bought a 20" Husky and I'm going to go slice things up. What've you got for a chainsaw?

Bout to cook some breakfast and clean up my house. It's "hockey day in canada" today so I'll be going to see the local nhl team play. After that we'll come home and figure out what to cook and then go to laundromat. I will also send some text messages to the woman. She's about 3000 miles away and on vacation with her family so my commitments are limited haha.
![]() 02/14/2015 at 10:01 |

I plan on doing some woodworking. I'm making a curio cabinet to keep our new daughter away from all our little knickknacks. I figure by the time I finish it, she'll be mobile.

The prospect of burning cherry horrifies me. Up here hardwood like that sells for a lot.
![]() 02/14/2015 at 10:08 |
|
It sells for a fair bit here too, but it's such a lovely burner, and like apple and silver birch it has a wonderful smell. I work with trees all the time so I quite often get to take a few bits home.
![]() 02/14/2015 at 10:09 |

Yeh I read that your missus was away. Gutted for you, but the laundromat sounds fun!

I love a bit of woodwork. I have some shelves to build this evening so I'm gonna pop up the yard to measure out and cut ready for tomorrow :)
![]() 02/14/2015 at 10:17 |

I work with trees so I have a few!
Stihl MS170, MS260, MS201T, 048AV
Jonsered 2149 Turbo(!)
Husqvarna 346xpg
And before you ask, I don't have a favourite... I think.
![]() 02/14/2015 at 10:18 |
|
I spend a hell of a lot more time in the wagon!
Zing!
In all seriousness though, I got home and smelled roasting ATF and had one of those "motherfucker!" Moments. Power steering hose should last more than 10 days. I have 4 qts of NAPA ATF+4 sitting on the front seat in place of the Mopar stuff, to see if the fluid is part of the problem. Im also going to ask about just using 3/8 inch NAPA power steering hose and seeing if its tougher and works better.
The shop is equally frustrated by the situation, so theres that.

Well she is on vacation but she usually lives about 5 provinces over. (Canada is really quite large it's about 3-4 day drive in each direction). Hopefully, I'll be able to be a bit closer soon. In the meantime, I'll be looking forward to her visit in June.
![]() 02/14/2015 at 10:21 |

I love me some Stihl. Unfortunately they're a very easy target for thieves. Locks and chains, locks and chains.
![]() 02/14/2015 at 10:26 |
|
Huskys too, so don't be complacent. Orange chainsaws are an easy fence no matter the condition. The Jonsered looks like a shitty hardware store job so doesn't get much attention, but it goes like a freight train. I ended up buying a box trailer specifically for saws and stuff so that they're not on view inside the Land Rover

Ouch. Whereabouts in Canada are you? I frequent Banff, but have no real knowledge outside of 20mile radius!

I hope you've polished your handcuffs... There'll be a lot of horny cougars afterwards

Oh ok. I live in Ottawa Ontario the capital. She lives in Prince George British Columbia. We are both from the same place in southern BC so that's how we met.

I think it's great that you have such a good relationship over that distance. How much will you get with the move?
![]() 02/14/2015 at 10:43 |
|
And I just saw the maul in the corner. You are now officially an awesome person in my book, because I love my maul. I'm curious, is there any particular brands you prefer for axes & mauls? I bought a rock forge maul, and I believe it's a cheaper one, but it gets the job done reliably.
![]() 02/14/2015 at 10:45 |
|
"How much will you get with the move?"....do you mean how much closer will I be? I am trying for Saskatchewan, so that it'd be about a 17 hours drive instead of about 65 hours.
![]() 02/14/2015 at 10:45 |

Oh, I'm sure! But isn't the girl the younger one in the book?
![]() 02/14/2015 at 10:49 |

Yeh sorry, Kinja mobile adds and deletes words as it sees fit. That's fantastic, you could almost have it done in a day.
![]() 02/14/2015 at 10:53 |

Well that's the hope. Really the objective is to be west of Northern Ontario. From where I am to the Ontario/manitoba border is about 26 hours of driving, and there are only about 4 towns. lol.
![]() 02/14/2015 at 10:55 |

My favourite is the Fiskars X27. It's light (for a splitter) and just an absolute joy to use. It only gets stopped by really knotty wood which is when I use that Stihl maul in the corner. While the Stihl is just fine as a maul, I prefer my Gransfors Bruks maul for extended use as it has a slightly narrower head and a beautiful weight balance. But if you want an excellent all-rounder which will tackle almost anything, the Fiskars is unbeatable. One of my absolute favourite tools.

Ya, but I'm not sure they'd give a damn. It's either pick a young gun, or pick someone who's just started drawing their pension.

Working 8-5 then maybe going to dinner with Mom at the restaurant that my BF works at since we don't get to spend Valentines together this year.

I celebrated Valentines Day last weekend with my GF. Got her flowers, a surprise gift that included a trophy, balloon and chocolate... and then went to Red Lobster. Yeah Red Lobster isn't gourmet... but she likes it.
My GF is out of town this weekend visiting her son. I'm with my kids. Gonna do some shopping with them.

Big mouth stove means I just cut them into slices and shove them in. No splitting and I'm well on my way to gallons of THE SOUP.

He actually works doubles on the weekend at the restaurant he works at F-Su. But we usually do stuff after work during the week all the time cause we are both off at 5:30 M-W. He has Thursdays off and I have Sundays off, but we make it work :).

Nope, I'm French so I avoid Paris at all costs :) Took off from Lyon. And I'm currently answering from 34.946ft at the moment, courtesy of Emirates WiFi in the A380 :)
